Week 1:

In the first week, participants will learn about the fundamental concepts and functions of human resources management as they apply to public organizations and the particular challenges facing public sector managers. Through learning resources and application activities, participants will explore the relationship between the employee and the organization and gain insights into the difference between transactional and strategic human resources.

Week 2:

This week, continuing the exploration of strategic human resource management, participants will learn about the talent lifecycle, from recruitment to development to performance management. Through learning resources and application activities, participants will also explore the legal rights of employers and employees and their individual responsibilities.
 

Module 2: Creating an Inclusive Culture

Week 3:

This week, participants will be introduced to the concepts of organizational culture and the pivotal role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in shaping and enriching the culture. Through learning resources and application activities, participants will be introduced to various forms of diversity.

Week 4:

In the program's final week, participants will gain insights into the elements of a strong workplace culture and understand the role managers play in shaping the culture in their organizations. Participants will explore effective methods for navigating a multigenerational workforce, addressing communication gaps and work style differences, and leveraging the strengths of diverse age groups to foster collaboration and innovation. Through learning resources and application activities, participants will learn strategies to create an equitable culture where employees feel a sense of belonging.

  • Define what is meant by diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Explain the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and their impact on
    organizational effectiveness and innovation
  • Explain the concept of organizational culture and the key elements that form culture

Week 4

At the end of this module, participants will be able to:

  • Explain generational differences and the role they play in influencing organizational culture
    and dynamics 
  • Identify aspects of a workplace culture that is strong in diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Identify the role of the manager in building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization
  • Understand the concepts of psychological safety and safe spaces
